Semion Gurevich, born in 1990 in St. Petersburg, grew up in a family of musicians. He studied modern violin at Berlin’s Hanns Eisler School of Music under Professor Ulf Wallin, later specialising in baroque violin at the University of the Arts Berlin with Irmgard Huntgeburth and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Professor Leila Schayegh.
Gurevich has won numerous competitions, including the David Oistrakh and Shostakovich Competitions, and more recently, in 2023, he won first prizes at the International Handel Competition in Göttingen, the Biagio Marini Competition in Neuburg, and the Early Music Ensemble Competition at the University of the Arts Berlin.
Throughout his career, he has drawn inspiration from prominent musicians like Mstislav Rostropovich, Gidon Kremer, Zakhar Bron, Maxim Vengerov, Tabea Zimmermann, Rachel Podger, Amandine Beyer, and Mechthild Karkow. Gurevich is a highly sought-after guest artist, frequently performing with ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Il Giardino Armonico, Gli Incogniti, and the Lautten Compagney. He also served as director of the Synergy Chamber Orchestra in his hometown of St. Petersburg.
